The Nordwand Alpine Belay is a belay device built on experience from the most demanding alpine ascents, but it will serve you just as well at your local crag or indoor climbing wall.

Steel heart, aluminium body

At its core is a smart hybrid construction. The body of the belay device is made of lightweight aluminium so it doesn't weigh down your harness unnecessarily – it weighs a mere 80 grams. However, the key parts where the rope runs most during belaying and abseiling are fitted with inserts made of abrasion-resistant steel. This means the braking grooves and the rear sliding surface last many times longer than on all-aluminium models. No more sharp edges and prematurely retiring your gear.

A versatile partner for any rope

Whether you climb on a single, half or twin rope, the Nordwand Alpine Belay can handle it. It is designed for rope diameters from 7.5 to 10.5 mm. Thanks to this, you only need one belay device for all climbing disciplines. The geometry of the V-shaped braking grooves provides reliable control when catching a fall as well as smooth lowering of your climbing partner.

Safe belaying from the anchor

When climbing multi-pitch routes, you will appreciate the auto-blocking function for bringing up a second. You simply clip the belay device using the guide hole directly into the anchor, and the rope automatically locks under tension. This increases safety and comfort when you need to sort gear at the belay station or take a short rest.

Our tip

For smooth rope handling and proper function of the auto-blocking mode, we recommend using the belay device with a larger HMS carabiner with a round profile. The edge of the carabiner won't rub unnecessarily, making rope manipulation noticeably easier.
