Cleaning products

food scraps and cleaning products belong in the soil, which filters them, not directly in the water. In practice, this means collecting water in a container, walking away from the bank and using the smallest possible amount of detergent. On a hike, hot water and a sponge are often enough; you can wipe the pot with a piece of bread and eat the rest, which eliminates most of the work. Cleaning products designed for outdoor use make it easier, but even with them, keeping your distance from the water still applies.
