Bar tape

Wrap it from the ends of the drops upwards, overlapping by about a third of the width and with higher tension on the bends. A short extra piece belongs under the brake lever so the bar doesn't show through anywhere. Thicker and gel options dampen vibrations on long rides, while thin cork ones provide more direct contact. A gel pad under the bar tape relieves the palms in the spot where your hands rest most often. You will recognise this by sore palms after a longer ride.
