Bike travel cases and accessories
A hard case protects the bike best and withstands rough handling at the airport, but it is heavy itself and takes up half your cupboard space at home.
A soft bag is lighter and more compact, but you have to add the padding yourself. Whatever you choose, remove the rear derailleur and pack it separately, because a bent derailleur hanger is the most frequent damage during transport. Insert spacers into the fork and between the dropouts, otherwise they will get compressed. Check the size and weight limits with the carrier before buying a case. Keep a photo of the packed bike in case of a complaint.
