A tubular is a tyre with a sewn-in inner tube that is glued to a special rim.
Its benefits are strictly for racing: a softer ride, a lower risk of pinch flats and the ability to keep riding even after a puncture. The price is demanding installation — the glue must dry, and a poorly glued tubular can roll off in a corner. In practice, a puncture on the road means swapping the whole wheel or fitting a spare tubular. For regular riding, a tubeless tyre is more practical today, offering similar benefits without gluing. Moreover, a tubular rim cannot be used for anything else.
