you can take your foot off instantly, so it is ideal where you stop or fall often. The large surface supports the foot, and the pins keep it in place — combined with a sticky rubber shoe, they grip surprisingly well. For the city, smoother versions without pins are better as they won't scratch your calves. Bearings and their serviceability determine how long the pedal lasts.
