Measure the length simply: stand in the middle of the skipping rope and the handles should reach roughly to your armpits.
A rope that is too long gets tangled under your feet, while a short one forces you to crouch. A speed skipping rope with a thin cable spins the fastest and is ideal for double unders, whereas a heavier cable or weighted handles will engage your shoulders more. Skip on a more forgiving surface and in cushioned shoes — concrete and bare feet are the fastest route to sore Achilles tendons and shins.
